Historically, guests to Glacier arrived by rail and spent their visit traveling between chalets and camps that were set approximately a day’s horseback ride apart. Today, horses are still used to deliver supplies deep in Glacier’s backcountry where vehicles cannot go. Be a part of this past and present tradition to enjoy the Park in a classic and beautiful way.
Trips inside the park originate from Apgar and Lake McDonald near West Glacier and from Many Glacier near St. Mary. Half day and full day trips are available.
In East Glacier, steps from Glacier Park Lodge, enjoy a guided horseback trip with Glacier Gateway Outfitters along the western border of Glacier National Park into the heart of Native American Land. Guides will direct you along mountainous trails where you have the opportunity to see wildlife and specacular views of the Two Medicine valley of Glacier National Park.
Outfitters outside the Park also offer unique trail riding experiences on horseback. Bar W Ranch in Whitefish is located up the street from Grouse Mountain Lodge. This dude ranch will get you suited up for a western adventure. With so many rideable options, there’s no reason not to saddle up and go for a ride Montana style.
